Melting Point Method
The Melting and Boiling point is a physical parameter to describe a material and thus can be set in line along with material constants such as density, light refraction, adsorption capacity or viscosity.
- Identification: The identity of a material can be determined by measuring the melting point. The result is compared with literature data.
- Purity: even slight impurities can cause a lowering of its melting point or at least widening of its melting range. Therefore, the measured melting point can be used as a measure for the purity
- Thermal stability: Measuring of the Melting Point may be used to determine how is the behaviour at higher temperatures regarding decomposition, discoloration etc.
